Wheaton men's tennis team travels to Carthage College for conference test

Racine, Wis. -- Four days after defeating Carroll University in Waukesha, the Thunder men's tennis team returned to the state of Wisconsin to take on the Pioneers' neighboring program, Carthage College. The hosting Firebirds, ranked 29th in the country in this week's ITA Division III team poll, won Saturday's contest, 7-0, to improve their impressive season record to 19-3 and lock up the #2 seed in the upcoming CCIW Tournament. Wheaton dips to 5-8 on the year and 2-2 in conference play with the result.

Carthage began this evening's match at the LifeSport Athletic Club in strong fashion, withstanding a 6-4 challenge from Wheaton's #1 doubles pair and winning all three fixtures to log the first point. The Kenosha outfit then proceeded to claim all six singles duels in straight sets to punctuate its sweep and pick up a fifth league win of the season.

After a 1-1 week in the Badger State, the Thunder will return to the campus courts on Tuesday to welcome the CCIW regular season champions. Wheaton faces #31 North Central College at 4:30 PM in the squad's last home match of the year.
