JD Van Hook have been named to the fifth D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the 2026 season. The duo helped lead the Thunder to a 4-1 record last week as Wheaton compiled a 5-2 record in its spring break trip to Tucson, Arizona.
Gill had at least one hit in each of Wheaton's five games last week as the sophomore shortstop hit .667 (12-for-18) with an .889 slugging percentage. He drove in nine runs and scored six times. Against Bethany Lutheran last Monday, Gill was 4-for-5, scoring twice. In a 1-0 win against Hamline last Tuesday, Gill drove in Wheaton's lone run with a game-winning RBI-single. In game two of a doubleheader sweep against Crown, Gill was 3-for-3 with a walk as he had seven RBI, hitting a double and a triple in the game…in Friday's opening game against Crown he was 2-for-3 with a double as he drove in one run. Last Saturday in a 15-4 victory against Hamline, Gill was 2-for-3, with two walks, scoring three runs.
Van Hook had two appearances last week, earning two saves. His save last Tuesday in the 1-0 victory against Hamline helped start Wheaton's current four-game win streak. He faced three Pipers' batters in the outing, recording one strikeout and Hamline did not collect a hit. He also picked up the save in game one last Friday in the victory against Crown. He pitched 1/3 of an inning against the Polars to close out the 7-6 victory and stall a furious Crown rally.
The Thunder return to action on Thursday as the team opens its home schedule at 5:00 p.m. against Concordia-Chicago.
