Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton men's and women's track and field teams each competed at Carthage College's Tadd Metzger Invitational on Saturday. The Thunder women's team and the Thunder men's team each finished third respectively.
The host Firebirds women's track and field team scored 222 points to finish first in the women's team standings. Carroll scored 158.5 points in second place, followed by Wheaton's 113.5 points in third place, UW-Parkside finished fourth with 96 points and Concordia-Chicago rounded out the top-five with 26 points.
Heidi Krekelberg finished first in the finals of the women's 55-meter dash with a time of 7.29-seconds. Krekelberg placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.84-seconds. Sophomore
Hannah Harris placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.11, while freshman
Tovah Catlin was fifth in 1:04.38.
Wheaton runners finished in the top three places in the women's one-mile run. Senior
Laura Prothero finished first in 5:33.12, narrowly ahead of second-place
Lily Lebo with a time of 5:33.82.
Elizabeth LaBrin finished third in 5:37.37. Allie Woolever posted a time of 2:27.88 to place third in the 800-meter run.
Junior
Grace Crowder finished first in the women's high jump with an effort of 1.63 meters (5' 4-1/4"). Junior
Ashtin Roy tied for fourth place as she cleared a height of 2.97 meters (9' 9"). Sophomore
Sally Elsen scored 3,086 points in the pentathlon to finish first. Elsen had the top effort among the 13 competitors in the multi-event competition in both the 800-meter run and the 55-meter hurdles, while she had the second-place efforts in the shot put and high jump.
The Carthage men's program finished first in the men's team standings with 259 points. Carroll placed second with 115 points, Wheaton scored 92 points in third place, Concordia-Chicago finished fourth with 67 points, UW-Parkside scored 53 points to round out the top-five.
Sophomore Ty Bova had the highest placing performance for the Thunder men's program as he finished second in the men's high jump with an effort of 2.03 meters (6' 7-7-3/4"). Joshua Schuurman placed third in the pole vault with a height of 4.21-meters (13' 9-3/4"). Junior Isaac Bledsoe placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.76-meters (22' 2-1/4"). Junior Ben Maher finished third in the men's heptathlon with 4,295 points and Jae Young Yu placed fourth with 3,655 points.
Wheaton took three of the top four spots in the men's 400-meter dash. Senior Dan Sanoussi rank to a second-place finish in 51.64, Bradley Lauber was third in 51.66 Zach Torres was fourth in 52.52. Sophomore David Harvin placed third in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.37-seconds. Joey Rosenthal finished fourth in the finals of the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.72-seconds.
The Thunder track and field teams will compete at the Chicagoland Championships next weekend at North Central College. The women's Chicagoland Championship event will be held on Friday and the men's competition will be on Saturday.
