Thunder men's tennis team falls to Grinnell and Luther in a pair of matches on Saturday

Lake Geneva, Wis. –  After beginning the Warhawk Invite against UW-Whitewater on Friday, the Thunder men's tennis team returned to the courts on Saturday for two more non-conference matchups. In today's first fixture, the Wheaton Thunder were defeated by the Grinnell Pioneers by a score of 7-0. Wheaton's trip Wisconsin concluded on Saturday night with a matchup against Luther. The Norse defeated the Thunder, 7-0.

After competing in Wisconsin for the last two weeks, Wheaton will play their first match on Febraury 21 at home as they host Concordia University (Wis.) at Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park. The upcoming match between the Thunder and the Falcons will begin at 2:00 p.m.

GRINNELL RECAP
The doubles portion featured competitive matches. Grinnell's No. 2 doubles won 6-4 against Wheaton's No. 2 doubles pair of David Hill and Corin Tang. No. 1 duo Andrew Winters and Andrew Jang lost in a 7-6 tiebreak, while Joshua Hartman and Ryder Ward won 6-4 in No. 3 doubles to claim the Thunder's lone win.

Despite the close matches in doubles, Grinnell dominated most of the singles contests. However, Hill in No. 4 singles and Ward in No. 5 singles had hard-fought matches, totaling over two hours each with both players ultimately falling in third-frame tiebreakers.

With the result, the Thunder drop to 1-2 overall while the Pioneers improve to 2-0. Wheaton does not have to wait long for its next matchup, as it will take on the Luther Norse tonight at 6:00 PM to finish off the Warhawk Invite.

LUTHER RECAP
To conclude their time at the Warhawk Invite, the Wheaton Thunder men's tennis team took on the Luther Norse for the fourth-consecutive season. Luther came out victorious as they swept the Thunder, 7-0.

Luther captured all threee doubles matches, however, the singles contests produced more competitive matches today. Andrew Jang at No. 2 singles and Andrew Winters at No. 3 singles won decisive second sets after dropping the first sets. Both players lost their matches in tiebreakers.
