Wheaton, Ill. -- Wheaton's
Soren Richardson has been named the CCIW Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Today's announcement marks the junior's third weekly conference accolade of the season and the fifth of his collegiate career.
Richardson was instrumental in Wheaton's 94-85 victory over the North Park Vikings this Saturday. The junior moved into first in scoring in the conference with an average of 23.1 points per game in league play after putting up a game-high 26 against the Vikings. He made three baskets from beyond the arc. He brought in six rebounds as well as distributing four assists in the effort. His third and final three-ball of the game helped swing momentum back into Wheaton's favor, after North Park pushed their way back into the game down 77-72. From close to 30-feet out, Richardson drained the shot with a hand in his face and sparked an 11-0 run that allowed the Thunder to push back out to a comfortable lead. The Preseason All-American showed up when it counted most in the final minutes, contributing a steal, an assist and a defensive rebound that set up a layup for point guard
Devin Martin in the victory as Richardson sparked the key run that allowed Wheaton to pull away.
The junior and his teammates will take the court at King Arena against the Augustana Vikings this Wednesday at 7:00 PM
