Zeke Harris' second-place effort highlight day for Thunder wrestling at Elmhurst's Al Hanke Invitational

Elmhurst, Ill. – The Wheaton wrestling team competed at Elmhurst University's Al Hanke Invitational on Saturday. The Thunder placed 10th in the tournament.

University of Chicago finished first in the team standings with 144.5 points, followed by MSOE in second place with 129 points, Harper College placed third with 98.5 points, UW-Whitewater finished fourth with 94th points and Trine rounded out the top-five with 88 points. The host Bluejays of Elmhurst scored 75.5 points in sixth place, North Central scored 71 points in seventh place, Carthage was eighth with 66.5 points, UW-Stevens Point scored 57.5 points in ninth place and Wheaton was 10th with 33 points. Blackburn scored 11.5 points in 11th place and Triton College finished 12th with 4.5 points.

The top performance for the Thunder came from two-sport standout Zeke Harris. Harris competed in a tournament for the first time this season and finished second at 197-pounds. Harris opened by winning a 7-4 decision over Trine University's Julante Hinton. Harris continued his advancement by winning a 5-1 decision over Chicago's Sawyer Chism. Harris won a 9-6 decision against the top seed at 197-pounds, Gavin Graham of MSOE. Harris recorded a takedown in the first minute of the contest and led 3-1 at the end of the first period. A reversal by Graham in the first minute of the second period tied the match at 3-3, however in the final 40-second he registered an escape and a takedown to go up 7-3 through two periods. Harris and Graham traded reversals in the first minute of the third period and Graham was awarded a stalling penalty point to account for the 9-6 final score. Chicago's Nolan Pozzobon defeated Harris in an 8-1 decision.

The Thunder wrestling team returns to Elmhurst next Saturday to compete in the CCIW Duals event.
