Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton junior
Taggert Kazmierczak has been named the CCIW Men's Wrestling Student-Athlete of the Week for his performance last Saturday, picking up wins in two home dual matches. Kazmierczak is the first Wheaton wrestler to win the CCIW's weekly award since 2023 NCAA Division III National Runner-Up Ethan Harsted picked up the accolade on Janaury 17, 2023.
Kazmierczak convincingly defeated Concordia-Wisconsin's Hunter Burr just 11 seconds into their match at 165-pounds in Saturday's dual match against the Falcons. Kazmierczak picked up the win via a fall against Burr, as Kazmierczak's win gave Wheaton its second-consecutive fall and was a big part of Wheaton rallying from a 21-0 deficit to defeat the Falcons 32-21 in the dual match. Kazmierczak defeated Carthage's Max Schmitt in a 16-2 major decision in Saturday's other dual match. His win at 165-pounds was one of two Thunder victories in the dual against the Firebirds.
The Thunder return to action on Saturday as they compete at Elmhurst University's Al Hanke Invitational.
