Wheaton, Ill. -- After leading the Thunder to a pair of wins last week, Wheaton's
Soren Richardson has been named the CCIW Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Today's announcement marks the junior's second weekly conference accolade of the season and the fourth of his collegiate career.
Richardson led the team in scoring in both of Wheaton's victories last week, averaging 23.5 points and making a joint team-best 16 total field goals across the two games. The Minnesota native registered a team-high 25 points in last Wednesday's 85-84 victory over Carroll University and matched his single-game career high in steals with five. The preseason All-American guard shot 50% from the floor, made all eight of his free throw attempts, grabbed five rebounds, earned a pair of assists, and blocked one shot in a versatile performance that helped the Thunder pick up their second conference win of the season.
Richardson and his teammates then made it two one-point conference victories on the spin with a dramatic 72-71 comeback effort at North Central College on Saturday, capped by
his impressive one-legged buzzer-beater to win the game for Wheaton. The All-Region selection scored a joint game-high 22 points as the only player on either team to sink multiple three-point shots and once again finished with a 100% mark from the foul line. Richardson also collected three rebounds, three assists, and one steal in the road win.
The conference's current leading scorer and his Thunder teammates are back on the road on Wednesday to face Millikin University in a 7 PM matchup in Decatur.
