Elmhurst, Ill. – After a sweep over MSOE last Saturday, the Thunder women's tennis team traveled to Elmhurst University this morning to take on the Bluejays in their first conference test of the year. Wheaton was victorious over Elmhurst, defeating the Bluejays, 7-0, to remain undefeated on the young season.
The Thunder dominated the doubles portion, with all three pairs earning bagel victories.
Madeline Gentry and
Tatum Thurstone were victorious at #1 doubles,
Janet Kondo and
Ella Malone swept their #2 matchup, and
Sophie Dew and
Carly O'Leary posted a flawless #3 doubles result.
Wheaton continued its momentum in singles as Gentry, Malone, and Dew shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 5 positions, respectively. Thurstone captured her No. 2 singles contest at a 6-3, 6-1 line, while Kondo only dropped one game of a smooth No. 4 singles victory. O'Leary matched Kondo on the same winning scoreline at No. 6 singles to confirm Wheaton's team sweep.
Dating back to their first contest in 2005, the Thunder are a perfect 22-0 against the Bluejays. Moreover, Wheaton's sweep over Elmhurst marks the eighth consecutive meeting where the Thunder have not lost a single match to their local opponents.
After beginning its conference schedule in perfect fashion, Wheaton will return home this Friday for the first of five-straight matches at the campus courts as the Thunder battle the Carroll Pioneers in another CCIW clash at 4:30 PM.
