Winona, Minn. – The Wheaton volleyball team accomplished a 4-0 weekend at the Saint Mary's University's (Minn.) Sugar Loaf Classic with a pair of victories on Saturday morning to wrap up the weekend in the 'Land of 10,000 Lakes'. The Thunder opened Saturday's action with 3-0 win against Martin Luther College. Wheaton also earned a 3-0 win against Luther College in the second match of the day for the Thunder to close out the weekend.
Wheaton improves to 7-0 for the 2025 season, marking the best start for the program since a 7-0 start to open the 2018 campaign.
Wheaton topped Martin Luther 3-0 as the Thunder won the first set 25-12, earned a 25-13 victory in the second set and they closed out the match with a 25-12 win in the third set.
Lacey Higgins registered 23 assists in the win as she surpassed 2,000 career assists in the victory. Higgins is the 10
th player in program history to surpass 2,000 career assists.
Katherine Adkison led the Thunder against Martin Luther with 10 kills as she posted a .304 attack percentage.
Ashton Major recorded seven kills, with a .500 attack percentage.
Paris Griffin tallied six kills and
Jordan Benford added five.
Grace Autry had a team-high 12 digs for the Thunder and Benford added 10. Griffin, Major and Adkison each recorded two service aces in the victory.
The final match of the weekend for the Thunder was a 3-0 win against Luther as the Thunder won 25-19, 25-18, 25-12. Benford registered 14 kills, while Major added seven, and Adkison added six. Higgins tallied 27 assists in the victory.
Sydney Overweg and Major each had four total blocks for the Thunder. Autry had a team-high 11 digs in the win, and Benford added 10. Major recorded four services for the Thunder.
Wheaton hosts Rockford on Tuesday evening in King Arena to begin a busy week at home. The week continues on Wednesday against Concordia (Wis.) and hits its peak on Friday and Saturday as the Thunder host the Marilyn Scribner Invitational.
