Andrew Heeringa named CCIW Co-Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week in men's soccer

Wheaton, Ill. -- The conference office announced its latest round of men's soccer weekly award honorees this morning, and Wheaton defender Andrew Heeringa has been recognized as the Co-Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week. The senior becomes the Thunder's first defensive player to earn the accolade this season, and it also marks the first conference award of Heeringa's Wheaton career.

The Michigan native came off the bench in Wheaton's draw with the University of Chicago last Wednesday, playing the final 25 minutes of the game to help the Thunder see out their first clean sheet of the 2025 campaign. Three days later, Heeringa played a starring role in Wheaton's 2-1 comeback win over the University of Dubuque. The senior stepped onto the field shortly after the Spartans took the lead and promptly locked down the right side of the Thunder defense over the next 75 minutes, while also registering an assist on both of Wheaton's goals to tally his first points of the year and help extend his squad's unbeaten start to the season.

Heeringa and his teammates are back in action today, as Wheaton travels to Greenville University for a 2 PM nonconference match.
