The Thunder men's basketball program earns academic recognitions from the NABC

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton men's basketball program has been recognized with a Team Academic Excellence Award from the NABC for the 2024-25 season.This year's recognition mark's the 10th time since the award began in 2012-13 that Wheaton has earned the distinction. Head coach Mike Schauer's program also received the recognition in 2012-13, 2013-14, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23 and 2023-24.

The NABC Team Excellence award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2024-25 season. Wheaton was one of more than 390 programs across NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III and the NAIA to earn the award. In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, an institution must count the grade point averages of all student-athletes on the roster during the 2024-25 season. The Wheaton men's basketball program produced a cumulative team GPA of 3.59 at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year.

Additionally, six members of the Wheaton men's basketball program have been named to the NABC Honors Court. To be named to the NABC Honors Court, a student-athlete must achieve each of these four criteria: 1.) Academically is a junior, senior or graduate student and on the varsity roster; 2.) Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2022-23 academic year; 3.) Must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution. 4). Member of a NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Division I or II institution.

Wheaton's selections for the 2024-25 Honors Court are: Cody Appleton, Cooper Starks, Kyle Neibch, Nathan Clark, Noah Hedrick, and Steven Schultz.
