Wheaton men's track finishes sixth at the CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Naperville, Ill. – The Wheaton track and field teams competed at the 2025 CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend on the campus of North Central College. The Thunder men's program finished in sixth place.

North Central's men's program won its seventh-consecutive CCIW Outdoor Track & Field Championship with 236 points. Illinois Wesleyan scored 139 points in second place, Augustana tallied 125 points in third place, Millikin finished fourth with 85.5 points, and Carthage rounded out the top-five with 81 points. Wheaton placed sixth with 58.5 points, North Park registered 38 points in seventh place, Carroll finished eighth with 32 points, and Elmhurst was ninth with nine points.

FRIDAY RECAP
Sam Elsen recorded a time of 9:00.26 to finish second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sheldon Powell was third with a time of 9:19.94, while Braedon Veurink was seventh in 9:29.25.

Thunder sophomore Ben Maher recorded an effort of 50.27-meters (164' 11") in the men's javelin throw to place sixth overall in the 24-man field. Junior Joshua Schuurman cleared a height of 4.00 meters (13' 1-1/2") to place eighth in the pole vault.

Through the first five events of the multi-day decathlon Cohen Oberg is third in the event with 3,164 points. Maher is just behind him in fourth place with a toss of 3,072 points.

SATURDAY RECAP
Oberg concluded the the 10-event decathlon in second place with 5,939 points. He was the top point-scorer in both the high jump (1.91 meters | 6' 3-1/4") on Friday and on Saturday he was first among the decathletes in the pole vault (3.95 meters | 12' 11-1/2"). Sophomore Ben Maher finished fourth in the decathlon with 5,772 points during the two-day event. Maher had the top effort in the decathlon's long jump competition with a leap of 6.25 meters (20' 6-1/4"). 

Elsen recorded his second runner-up finish of the weekend with a time of 3:57.17 in the men's 1,5000-meter run. Teammate Joshua Cross posted an effort of 4:01.23 to place sixth. 

Freshman Ty Bova placed fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.91 meters (6' 3-1/4"). Sophomore Isaac Bledsoe was seventh in the men's triple jump with an effort of 13.22 meters (43' 4-1/2"). Jaden Pankau recorded an effort of 41.52 meters  (136' 3") to finish eighth in the men's discus throw.
