Thunder track and field teams compete at the St. Francis Fighting Chance Invitational

Joliet, Ill. – The Wheaton track and field teams competed at the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Chance Invite on Friday and Saturday.

Wheaton's Sheldon Powell finished second in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time o 9:11.38, while teammate Braedon Veurink was ninth in 9:25.31. St. Francis hosted an "Invitational" men's 1,500-meter run and an "Open" 1,500-meter run. Thunder freshman Joshua Cross was second in the Invitational race with a time of 3:59.02, while Gabe Praamsma was third in the open with a time of 4:04.55.

Freshman Ty Bova was seventh in the men's high jump with an effort of 1.93-meters (6' 4"). Joshua Schuurman recorded a height of 4.05-meters (13' 3-1/2") in the pole vault. Isaac Beldsoe finished ninth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.20-meters (43' 3-3/4").

Senior Jaden Pankau posted an effort of 43.66-meters (143' 3") to finish ninth in the discus throw. Quintin Stepps was ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.43-meters (119' 6"), while he was 10th in the javelin throw with an effort of 45.92-meters (150' 8").

Wheaton College at CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships, Carthage CollegeSophomore Grace Crowder (PICTURED LEFT) had the top effort for the Wheaton women's program this weekend. Her effort of 1.66-meters (5' 5-1/4") placed second at the meet and ranks 21st in Division III so far this season.

Laura Porthero posted a time of 19:55.22 to place third in the women's 5,000-meter run. Sadie Richert placed fifth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:22.65. Caroline Stetina finished 10th in the 10,000-meters with an effort of 36:54.29.

Hannah Harris placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.80. Freshman Sally Elsen was ninth in a time of 1:06.57.

Freshman Allison Roozeboom placed fifth in the women's shot put with a toss of 11.78-meters (38' 7-3/4") and she was ninth in the women's discus throw with an effort of 35.71-meters (117' 2").

Wheaton's final week of competitions ahead of the Division III Outdoor T&F Championships will be held next week as the Thunder track and field programs will send participants to "Last Chance" meets at Augustana and UW-La Crosse.
