CCIW Names Shylah Dozeman as its Pitcher of the Week in softball

Wheaton, Ill. –Sophomore Shylah Dozeman of the Wheaton Thunder softball team has been named the CCIW Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week after an outstanding week last week where she earned two wins in the circle. Dozeman is the first Wheaton softball player to earn a weekly award from the CCIW since Alese Antonello won the same award on March 15, 2022.

Dozeman posted a 2-1 record last week, appearing in three games last week. She posted a 1.03 ERA in 20-1/3 innings of work as she allowed five runs, including three earned runs. Dozeman struck out 17 batters and walked just four among the 83 batters she faced last week. 

Dozeman was the winning pitcher in Wheaton's 7-3 victory against Carthage last Thursday in the CCIW opener. She pitched 6-1/3 innings of scoreless relief, scattering three hits as she struck out four and walked one in the victory against the Firebirds. She followed that up in a complete game effort in the second game of the doubleheader against Carthage as she worked seven innings, allowing two earned runs, with five strikeouts. In Wheaton's final game of the week she led the Thunder to a 5-2 win at home against Elmhurst as she scattered six hits in seven innings as the starting pitcher. Dozeman allowed just one earned run against the Bluejays, with eight strikeouts and she allowed zero walks.

Dozeman and the Thunder continue conference play on Wednesday with a doubleheader in Rock Island, Illinois, as they visit Augustana College.
