Wheaton, Ill. -- The organization of College Sports Communicators (CSC) has announced its 2024-25 Academic All-America teams for Women's Swimming & Diving, and Wheaton's
Tess Boyer has earned recognition as a Second Team honoree on this year's Division III list following her standout sophomore season. Boyer garners the prestigious accolade after receiving Academic All-District recognition from the same organization and numerous athletic achievements in 2024-25, including a CSCAA Second Team All-America designation at last month's NCAA Division III Swimming Championships. The second-year student-athlete is one of only two sophomores in Division III women's swimming to earn First or Second Team status in 2024-25, and she is the only female swimmer from the CCIW to be named to this year's Academic All-America teams.
Since 1973, student-athletes from Wheaton College have earned a total of
120 Academic All-America selections through the esteemed program. Today's announcement extends Wheaton's streak of having at least one student-athlete recognized as an Academic All-American in every year since 2000. Boyer becomes the fourth Thunder women's swimmer in program history to be named an Academic All-American and is the team's first honoree since Kirsty Nitz ('16) earned her third and final recognition in 2016.
The Academic All-America® program honors student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level in athletics and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by College Sports Communicators - a 2,000-plus member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.50 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution. Since the program's inception in 1952, CSC has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Division I, II, III, NAIA and junior colleges covering all NCAA championship sports.
Boyer is a Computer Science and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology double-major at Wheaton and possesses an impressive 3.97 cumulative grade point average (GPA). The Kansas native recently concluded an outstanding sophomore season in the pool that saw her earn Second Team All-America honors at the national championships, set a new conference and program record in the women's 400-yard individual medley, and be named the CCIW Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Meet at the conference championships in February. Boyer was the first women's swimmer to represent Wheaton at the NCAA meet since 2019, and she was the only women's swimmer from the CCIW to qualify for this year's national finals, competing in the women's 200-yard IM and 200-yard butterfly events in addition to her 400-yard IM swim that yielded the Second Team All-America accolade.
The sophomore won three individual conference titles and four relay gold medals in a headline showing at this year's CCIW Swimming & Diving Championships. Boyer captured the conference crown in the women's 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley, and 200-yard butterfly races and helped Wheaton dominate the women's relay events, earning first-place finishes in the 800-yard freestyle, 400-yard free, 200-yard free, and 200-yard medley relays. Boyer was also named the CCIW Women's Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week four times throughout the regular season, the most weekly recognitions of any swimmer in the conference this year.
