Thunder track & field teams open day one at the 2025 CCIW Indoor T&F Championships

Kenosha, Wis. - The Wheaton track and field teams opened the first day of action at the 2025 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at Carthage College's Tarble Athletic & Recreation Center. The Thunder women's team is fourth in the nine-team field after day one, while the Wheaton men's program is seventh in the nine-team field.

Four Wheaton runners placed in the top-eight of the women's 5,000-meter run on Friday evening. Caroline Stetina placed second in 18:34.80, followed by teammate Sophia Huber's third-place time of 18:43.31. Lily Lebo was fifth in the event with a time of 18:51.58, with Elizabeth LaBrin placing seventh in 18:53.25, followed by Natalie Fopma in eighth place with a time of 18:59.25. 

Wheaton's women's distance medley relay team of Sarah Quintanilla, Sadie Richert, Emmarie Marino and Abby Rickard finished third in 12:38.77.

Thunder freshman Sally Elsen finished fifth win the women's indoor pentathlon with 2,938 points. Elsen's top performance in the five-event competition was the 800-meter run as she posted a time of 2:38.39 to have the second-fastest time among the 19 competitors. Junior Hannah Tompkins scored 2,617 points to finish 8th. 

The top performance for the Thunder men's program on Friday came from the men's distance  medley relay team of Joshua Cross, Bradley Lauber, Gabe Praamsma and Sam Elsen. The quartet posted a time of 10:15.12 to finish in second place, just behind the first-place effort of Augustana that posted a time of 10:09.46.
