Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton track and field teams competed at Carthage College's "Tadd Metzger Invitational" on Friday and Saturday. The Thunder women's team finished second in an 11-team field, while Wheaton's men tied for third in a 10-team field.
The host Carthage College Firebirds finished first in the men's team standings with 179 points, University of Dubuque placed second with 115.5 points, Wheaton and Harper College each scored 108 points in a tie for third place, while Benedictine scored 43.5 points in fifth place.
The most impressive effort for the Thunder men may have come in the one-mile run as Wheaton took the top three spots. Senior
Sam Elsen finished first with a time of 4:21.12, ahead of freshman
Joshua Cross' second-place time of 4:25.97, and
Gabe Praamsma finished third in 4:28.87. Cross finished fourth in the 800-meters with a time of 2:04.08, and
Braedon Veurink placed fifth in 2:04.43.
Stephen Hansen won the 5,000-meters with a time of 16:06.59, and
Sheldon Powell placed second in the 3,000-meter run with an effort of 8:47.58.
Junior
Cohen Oberg won the heptathlon with 4,298 points in the multi-event competition. Sophomore
Isaac Bledsoe finished fifth in the men's triple jump with an effort of 13.21-meters (43' 4-1/4").
Bledsoe posted a time of 6.64-seconds to finish third in the finals of the men's 55-meters. Junior
Aidan Langan finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.31-seconds, while
Dan Sanoussi was fourth in the 400-meters as he posted an effort of 52.71-seconds.
The Thunder track and field teams return to action next Friday at North Central College as they compete in the Chicagoland Championships.
