Lake Geneva, Wis. -- Six days after starting its 2025 season with a home victory over MSOE, the Wheaton men's tennis team hit the road for the first time this year to travel to Wisconsin for three non-conference matches. Returning to Lake Geneva for the annual Warhawk Invite, the Thunder faced off against 17th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater this afternoon and will take on Grinnell College and Luther College tomorrow. The hosting Warhawks captured today's contest by a score of 5-2 to move to 3-1 on the young season, while Wheaton's record now stands at 1-1.
UW-Whitewater won all three doubles fixtures to claim the first point of today's matchup.
Wheaton was able to force a third-set tiebreak game in three of the six singles contests this afternoon, but the Warhawks captured two of those tiebreakers to cement their team victory.
Jacob Williams outlasted his Whitewater opponent at #2 singles in the first set, 7-5, before grinding out an impressive 10-7 win in the tiebreak to earn one of the Thunder's two points on the day. The other tally came courtesy of
Corin Tang, who improved to 2-0 at #5 singles this season with another straight-set win at 6-2, 6-4.
The Thunder men do not have long to recover from today's match, as they will return to the courts again tomorrow morning for the second of their three contests this weekend. Wheaton will face off against #32 Grinnell College at 9 AM on Saturday before closing out its Wisconsin slate with a 6 PM match against Luther College.
