Hanover Park, Ill. – The Wheaton women's tennis team opened its 2025 spring schedule on Saturday with a matchup against Concordia (Wis.) at Centre Court Athletic Club. The Thunder shutout the Falcons 7-0. Wheaton improves to 9-2 overall on the 2024-25 campaign, while Concordia (Wis.) falls to 5-8.
Wheaton's first victory of the day was a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles as the Thunder tandem off
Lydia Adams and
Madeline Gentry defeated the Falcons' duo of Morgan Peyton and Ruth Dolde. The next Thunder win came from the No. 3 doubles team of
Alexandra Wachs and
Janet Kondo as they earned a 6-1 victory against Morgan Chyla and Payton Steward. Wheaton's No. 2 doubles team of
Tatum Thurstone and
Ella Malone earned a 6-2 victory against the CUW team of Maddie Bradshaw and Abby Schwartz.
Wachs started things off in singles play when she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles against Bradshaw. The next Thunder win went to Malone as she earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Chyla at No. 4 singles. Thurstone extended the Thunder lead to 4-0 when she completed her 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against Steward.
Janet Kondo was a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles against CUW's Jeanie Eisen. Adams was a 6-1, 6-2 victor against Dolde in their matchup at No. 3 singles. Gentry secured the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles against Morgan.
The spring schedule continues for the Thunder next Saturday morning as they travel to Kalamazoo College for a match against the Hornets.
