Sam Olsen broke a five-year old school-record in the men's 5,000-meters on Friday
The Wheaton men's track and field team competed at the Chicagoland Intercollegiate Championships on the campus of North Central College on Saturday. However the top performance for the Thunder men's program came on Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Wheaton senior distance runner Sam Elsen competed at the Grand Valley State University "Big Meet" on Friday where he set a new school record in the men's indoor 5,000-meter run. His time of 14:46.63 at the meet in Michigan bested the previous school record of 14:48.83 that was set by Seth Massot in 2020.
The remainder of the Thunder men's track program competed on Saturday at the Chicagoland Championships in Naperville.
Gabe Praamsma finished fourth in a 47-man field in the men's 800-meter run at North Central. Praamsma posted a time of 1:58.99 in the event.
Joshua Cross finished fifth in a 44-man field in the mens's 3,000-meter run. Cross' finished in 8:46.65. Luke Hertz posted a time of 15:44.65 to place seventh in the 5,000-meter run.
Cohen Oberg competed in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.84-seconds. Oberg's effort earned him a second-place finish.
The Thunder track and field teams return to North Central's campus next Friday for the F. Lee Slick Invitational.
