Soren Richardson is recognized as the CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in men's basketball

Wheaton, Ill. -- Wheaton's Soren Richardson earned the CCIW Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week accolade on Monday. Today's announcement from the conference marks Richardson's third career selection for the award, and he is the first Wheaton player to collect the weekly honor this season.

The junior scored a game-high 29 points in the Thunder's conference opener against Augustana last Wednesday and led the team with 22 points in Wheaton's victory over Elmhurst on Saturday. The Minnesota native not only provided a massive boost in scoring in last week's contest at Augie but was also a defensive pest, recording four steals for the second time this season, the second-highest single game total early into conference play. His 29-point performance is the third-highest single game total, and his 11 made field goals in that game is second-highest in the league, as well.

Richardson shot 18-of-30 across both matchups last week for a 60% field goal percentage, the second-best conversion rate of anyone with at least 20 shots attempted this past week.

The preseason All-American brought down seven rebounds and dished out a game-leading four assists to go with his 22 points in the 82-81 win against Elmhurst on Saturday.

Richardson and his teammates are back in action this coming Saturday when the Thunder travel to Carthage College for their next conference test. The game is scheduled to tip off at 4:15 PM in Kenosha.
