Isaac Eilmes earned wins in the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 400-yard IM

Men’s swimming and diving places third at conclusion of Wheaton Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The Wheaton College men's swimming and diving team secured three individual event wins on Saturday and concluded the three-day Wheaton Invitational by placing third as a team.

Grove City College came away with the title, scoring 885.5 points to prevail against the seven-team field. UW-Stevens Point was second with 796 points and Wheaton was third with 726.5 points.

Junior Isaac Eilmes was the top swimmer of the day for the Thunder as he accounted for two victories. He started the afternoon by handily winning the 1,650-yard freestyle in 16:12.25, outpacing competitors by 23 seconds. Freshman Jack Haidl was runner-up in the event at 16:36.07. Eilmes followed it up with a 400-yard IM triumph as he touched first in 4:09.78.

The third victory of the finals session came courtesy of Ben Coley. The junior swam 1:39.88 in the 200-yard freestyle to emerge victorious. Sophomore teammate Jed Ritchie took fourth in the race in 1:43.22.

Wheaton claimed runner-up in both of Saturday's relays. The 400-yard freestyle relay posted a time of 3:04.17 (Jac Cummings, Zachary Kohoutek, Kaden Gannon, Ben Coley), while the 200-yard medley relay swam a time of 1:32.17 (Jac Cummings, Nick John, Ben Coley, Kaden Gannon).

Cummings produced a podium finish in the 100-yard backstroke, grabbing third overall with a mark of 51.44. Freshman Peyton Truman took fifth place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:11.65.

The Thunder will take a month-long break from competition and continue their schedule with the Illinois-Michigan Quad Meet in Kalamazoo, Mich. on January 17.
