Opening dual match win against Illinois Wesleyan highlights a busy Saturday for Thunder wrestling

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton wrestling team hosted a trio of CCIW dual matches on Saturday afternoon in King Arena. The Thunder opened the afternoon with a come-from-behind 36-20 victory against Illinois Wesleyan. The middle match for the Thunder was a 42-3 Millikin victory against Wheaton and MSOE defeated Wheaton, 39-3 in the final match of the of the day.

In today's opening match, the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan started with a 16-0 lead. Cale Coppess earned a fall for the Thunder in his match at 149-pounds to start a string of three-consecutive wins by fall as Wheaton took an 18-16 lead lead in the team score.  Caleb Cox (157-pounds) and Soren Myra (165-pounds) also had wins via a fall following the Coppess win. Jacob Kraker (184-pounds) and Sean King (197-pounds) each earned wins by fall in the second period of their respective matches and Joseph Kruse earned a win at 285-pounds via a forfeit.

In Millikin's 42-3 win against the Thunder, Kraker was the lone Wheaton victor. Kraker picked up a 13-9 decision against Millikin's Zach Eaton in the matchup at 184-pounds.

In the final match of the day, MSOE was a 39-4 victor. King was the Wheaton wrestler to gain a win against the Raiders as he won an 8-2 decision against MSOE's Sean Wilwert.

Wheaton wrestling is off until January 10 when the Thunder host two more CCIW duals. The Thunder host Carthage College at noon that afternoon, followed by a 1:30 p.m. dual against Concordia (Wis.).
