Jack Krahel earns CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week recognition

Wheaton, Ill. -- The latest round of weekly conference honorees in men's soccer was announced on Tuesday morning, and Wheaton goalkeeper Jack Krahel has been named the CCIW Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his impressive play in the Thunder's last two matches. The accolade marks Krahel's first career conference recognition, and he joins senior defender Andrew Heeringa in earning the defensive award for Wheaton this season.

Krahel has played a key role in Wheaton's recent defensive solidity, as the graduate shot-stopper and the team have posted three-consecutive shutouts and became the first side all season to keep North Park off the scoreboard in Saturday's 1-0 road win. Krahel made four saves in the Thunder's dramatic victory in Chicago over the weekend, and, nearly one year later to the day, has replicated former fellow goalkeeper and current assistant coach Mason Escalante's feat of earning the conference's defensive honor after a 1-0 victory over the Vikings.

Last Wednesday, the Georgia native made another four stops in Wheaton's 3-0 home win over Kalamazoo College in the non-conference finale to secure his second-straight clean sheet following the Homecoming victory over Elmhurst on September 27th. Krahel's season total of four shutouts is currently the joint-most among all conference goalkeepers, and he is one of only two CCIW keepers to have not yet conceded a goal in conference play.

The shot-stopper and his Thunder teammates are next in action tomorrow night at Illinois Wesleyan University in a 7 PM contest.
