Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton sophomore
Zeke Harris has been named a CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in football for his effort in the Thunder's 28-24 victory over WashU at McCully Stadium on Saturday. This is the third accolade for the Thunder defense this season following
Colin Moore and
Rex Kroger. Monday's announcement also marks Harris' first selection of his career.
Harris flew all over the field in Saturday's action, racking up a game-high 13 total tackles, nine of which were solo tackles. Beyond his number of stops, Harris' contribution was felt most in WashU's final push for victory as the game ticked to a close. The Bears' offense was executing down the field, starting on their own 27-yard line. With 30 seconds left on the clock, the WashU quarterback dropped back to pass, and Harris was able to undercut the throw and snatch it out of the air, returning it 15 yards before sliding down to avoid a hit. This all but sealed the game for Wheaton as the team picked up its fifth victory of the season and moved into second place in the conference.
Harris leads the Thunder in tackles this fall with 65, a mark that is good for second in the CCIW. Harris is also third on the team in tackles for loss this season, registering 5.5 in his seven games played.
The #19-ranked Thunder travel to Elmhurst University this Saturday to take on the Bluejays at 12:00pm.
