Men's cross country competes at Augustana's Interregional Invitational

Rock Island, Ill. – The Wheaton cross country teams competed at Augustana's Interregional Invitational on Saturday. The Wheaton men's cross country team placed 34th in the 36-team field.

Cornell College's Isaac vanWestrienen finished first in the 8,000-meter men's race with a time of 23:57.1. Grant Matthai of UW-La Crosse recorded a time of 24:01.5, while Will Shuflit was third in 24:07.5. Aidan Matthai of UW-La Crosse posted a time of 24:18.6, while Wartburg's Isaiah Hammerand finished fifth in the 339-man field.

Wheaton senior Sheldon Powell was the top performer for the Thunder with a time of 26:17.5 in 148th-place. Matthais Everest  posted a time of 26:23.1 in 166th-place, while Jude Hubbard was 196th in 26:36.6. Sophomore Joshua Cross placed 251st with an effort of 27:11.5, while senior Braedon Veurink was 256th with a time of 27:13.3. Sophomore Drew Swiston was 262nd with a time of 27:19.2 and Michael Osielski was 279th in 27:29.3.

The Thunder cross country teams return to Rock Island and Saukie Golf Course for the third-consecutive event on November 1 when Augustana hosts the 2025 CCIW Cross Country Championships.
