Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder men's basketball team (3-4) hosted Hope College on Tuesday night in King Arena. The Flying Dutchmen (3-3) used a strong first half to earn a 73-46 victory against the Thunder.
Hope never trailed in tonight's contest against Wheaton as the guest scored the game's first 25 points. Much of Hope's effectiveness tonight came from a strong inside game as they out-scored Wheaton 48-12 in the paint.
Sophomore guard
Soren Richardson scored 15 points, with three steals.
Noah Hedrick and freshman
Kyan VanderWoude each scored seven points.
Noah Brumfield added six points, while
Kyle Neibch and
Cody Appleton each scored five points. Richardson, VanderWoude,
Christian Veirs, and
Devin Martin each grabbed a team-high four rebounds for the Thunder.
Wheaton shot 23.6% (13-of-55) from the field, including 21.4% (6-of-28) from three-point range. Hope had a 47.6% (36-of-67) field goal percentage, including 20% (5-of-25) behind the three-point arc. The Thunder shot 66.7% (14-of-21) at the free throw line and Hope had a 57.1% (4-for-7) effort at the charity stripe. The Flying Dutchmen out-rebounded Wheaton 55-29, including an 18-10 edge on the offensive glass.
Gabe Quillan led Hope with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Parker Hovey scored 12 points with six rebounds and three assists. Brady Miller tallied 11 points for the guests.
Wheaton remains at home for its next contest, a matchup against Manchester University. The weekend matchup between the Thunder and Spartans tips off at 3:00 p.m.
