Wheaton, Ill. - Wheaton juniors
Peter Johanik and
Nate Tofilon have been named a CCIW Student-Athlete of the Week in football, for their play last Saturday in a 64-10 victory at Millikin. The honor is the sixth time this season that a Wheaton football player has been named a CCIW Student Athlete of the Week, including two special teams selections for Tofilon. Wheaton's selections this season are:
Ben Bonga on offense (Sept. 30 & Oct. 14);
Mark Forcucci on offense (Oct. 21); Tofilon on special teams (Oct. 28 & Nov. 11); and Johanik (Nov. 11).
On Tuesday morning Johanik was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for the second time this season. He also earned the recognition on October 29.
Johanik tied for the game lead in total tackles last Saturday at Millikin with eight, including five solo stops. Six of his eight tackles were tackles for lost yardage (TFL) of -22 yards…his TFL total in the game is tied for the third-highest single-game total in the Division III game this season. He registered 3-½ sacks (-16 yards), a mark that is in the top-10 in a Division III game this season, and is the most by a Wheaton player since Jake Holaday recorded 3-½ against Carroll on October 16, 2021.
Tofilon scored a second-quarter special-teams touchdown in Wheaton's win at Millikin, returning a blocked punt for a score that pushed gave Wheaton a 21-3 lead. Additionally, he recorded a tackle on a kickoff return and had a punt of 36 yards.
The No. 23 ranked Thunder host North Park on Saturday afternoon in a noon kickoff at McCully Stadium. Saturday's game will be "Senior Day" for the Thunder football program with activities honoring the Thunder seniors beginning at approximately 11:25 a.m.
