Thunder women's soccer concludes the regular season at home against North Central

Wheaton, Ill. – The Thunder women's soccer team closed the 2024 regular season on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium with a match against North Central College. The Cardinals defeated the Thunder 4-0 tonight, aided by three first-half goals.

Tonight closed the book on the entire 2024 CCIW regular season schedule as the 2024 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament opens on Saturday with a pair of quarterfinal matches. Wheaton is the No. 5 seed in the tournament and will travel to No. 4 seed Elmhurst this Saturday for a 6:00 p.m. start time against the Bluejays. Saturday's other quarterfinal match will be held in Decatur as the No. 3 seed Millikin Big Blue host No. 6 Augustana at 2:30 p.m. The advancing teams on Saturday will compete in semifinal matches on Wednesday at either No. 1 seed Carroll or No. 2 seed North Central.

In tonight's match between the Thunder and the Cardinals at Joe Bean Stadium, the Cardinals gained a 1-0 lead as Elle Sutter scored for the guests in the 17th minute. Sutter extended her team's lead to 2-0 with another goal in the 25th minute. Just about three-and-a-half minutes later NCC's Kassandra Salviola tallied the Cardinals' third goal in the 28th minute. The guests held a 3-0 lead at halftime.

North Central's Madison DeVriendt extended the Cardinals' lead to 4-0 with her first goal of the match in the 69th minute.

Thunder goalkeeper Elizabeth Netz made five saves and allowed the four North Central goals. NCC goalkeeper Olivia Mattison played 75 minutes in net with no saves and no goals allowed. Jordan Boyd relieved Mattison for the final 15 minutes of the match, with two saves and no goals allowed.

North Central out-shot the Thunder 21-5, including an 11-2 advantage for NCC in shots on goals. The Cardinals were awarded 11 corner kicks in the contest.
