Rochester, N.Y. – The Wheaton women's soccer team (0-1-2) traveled to Upstate New York this weekend for a pair of matches in Rochester. The trip opened on Friday afternoon with a 1-0 victory for the host Tigers of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Saturday afternoon the Thunder will play at Nazareth University for a matchup against the Golden Flyers to close out the trip.
Each team took two shots in the first half of the match today on the RIT campus. Both of the Tigers' first-half shots came in the 20
th minute, including a shot on goal that was stopped by goalkeeper Mya Schoolman. Wheaton shots in the opening half came late as
Emily Setran and
Mia Blair each had a shot attempt in the final 1:10 of the half.
Each team had two shot attempts in the first half and each team was awarded two corner kicks. Schoolman made the lone save of the opening half.
RIT attacked early in the second half with four shot attempts in the first 12 minutes, including a shot on goal that was stopped by Schoolman at the 56:53 mark of the match. The hosts' converted their next shot attempt however, as
RIT's Elena Onodera scored at the 58:58 mark of the match. The Tigers' goal was assisted by Rachel Marriott. Wheaton's first shot of the second half was by Setran in the 68
th minute. Freshman
Julia Tallungan had Wheaton's final shot attempt of the match in the 77
th minute.
The hosts out-shot Wheaton 9-2 in the second half, as RIT had an 11-4 advantage in shots in the match. The Tigers had six shots on goal and Wheaton had zero. Each team had three corner kicks in the match.
Schoolman had a strong effort in net today, making five saves, including four saves in the second half.
