Men's Tennis sends three players to ITA Regional Championships

Kalamazoo, Mich. -- Despite not having a team match on the fall semester schedule, three Wheaton men's tennis players still saw competitive action on the court as Jack Booker, Tim Steiner, and Jacob Williams traveled to Kalamazoo College to take part in the ITA DIII Central Regional Championships. This marked the first time since 2019 that the Thunder program sent players to take part in the showpiece event. All three players won their first round singles matchups and Steiner and Williams registered a doubles pairing victory before exiting the tournament.

The junior duo combined to win their first round doubles match over a pairing from Hope College by a score of 8-2 to begin Friday's action before falling in the Round of 32 to a strong Case Western Reserve team.

Williams overpowered his Wittenberg singles opponent 6-1, 7-5 in the first round of Friday's bracket before losing to the top overall singles player from University of Chicago in the Round of 64. Doubles partner Steiner topped his Lake Forest rival by a score of 6-4, 6-1 and also fell to a seeded UChicago player in the second round this afternoon.

Jack Booker faced off against a fellow CCIW player from Illinois Wesleyan in the first round of the singles competition and emerged victorious at 6-2, 6-4. The senior did well to force a first-set tiebreak with his WashU opponent in the second round but eventually bowed out at the same stage as his two Wheaton teammates.

With no other contests scheduled for Fall 2023, the Thunder men's tennis team's 2024 season will begin in February.
