Thunder volleyball wins two on Saturday at the Marilyn Scribner Invitational; Capps and Traweek earn All-Tournament honors

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton volleyball team (5-4) closed out its Marilyn Scribner Invitational on Saturday with a pair of wins. The Thunder opened the day with a 3-0 victory against IIT in the first session of the day. Wheaton rallied for a dramatic 3-2 victory in the afternoon against Bethel University (Minn.).

Wheaton topped IIT, 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-22). Caroline Capps led the Thunder with 12 kills and Emerson Traweek added nine kills for the hosts. Jordan Benford added six kills in the win. Setter Lacey Higgins distributed 28 assists. Higgins had a team-high 13 digs, while Benford and Capps each recorded nine kills. Traweek had three service aces and two total blocks.

The afternoon victory against Bethel was a 3-2 win (16-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21, 15-10) against the Royals. Traweek and Capps each had 15 kills in the match. Ashton Major added 13 kills, with five kills for Faith Bailey. Higgins had 40 assists, and Traweek added two service aces. Higgins had a team-high 19 digs and Autry tallied 17. Bailey and Major each had a solo block, plus two assisted blocks in the match.

Wheaton was a perfect 3-0 at its own tournament this weekend. Both Traweek and Capps each earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team for their efforts in leading the Thunder to the 3-0 mark inside King Arena.

Wheaton takes to the road on Wednesday night for a non-conference match at No. 2 Hope College. The Flying Dutch participated in the Marilyn Scribner Invitational on Saturday, earning wins against Bethel and Aurora.
