Wheaton, Ill. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Division III All-Academic Teams for 2022-23 on Thursday. The Wheaton men's and women's programs both earned representation on the teams. To qualify for the award, a team must have at least a 3.1 cumulative team GPA.
The Thunder men's program was among 167 Division III squads to earn the recognition from the USTFCCCA. The Wheaton men's team posted a 3.56 cumulative GPA for the academic year. Wheaton was among seven CCIW teams (Carthage, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, North Central, North Park and Wheaton) to pick up the honor. Wheaton had the highest GPA among the seven CCIW squads and the program's 3.56 GPA was the 27th-highest of the 167 teams that earned the award.
The Wheaton women's program was one of 215 teams in Division III to earn the award. The Wheaton women's program posted a 3.65 cumulative GPA in the 2022-23 season. Wheaton joined fellow CCIW programs Carthage, Elmhurst, Illinois Wesleyan, Millikin, North Central and North Park in earning the recognition in 2022-23. The Thunder had the highest team GPA of the seven CCIW honorees and was 42nd of the 215 overall honorees.
Additionally the USTFCCCA presented All-Academic individual awards for the 2022-23 season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship; and/or finished the regular season ranked in the national-top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
The Thunder men's program had three individual honorees:
Isaiah Clausen,
Eli Odell and
Sam Elsen.
The Wheaton women's team had three student-athletes earn the All-Academic award.
Susannah Bennett,
Abi Gum and
Amy Keane.
