Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team hosted Carthage for a single game on Thursday to make up a game that was originally scheduled for April 19. The matchup against Carthage was followed by a single game against University of Chicago for a game that was originally scheduled for a doubleheader today.
The Thunder defeated Carthage 8-3 in today's opening game. Chicago defeated the Thunder 10-2 in today's second game.
Wheaton topped Carthage 8-3 as the Thunder scored eight runs, on 14 hits, with two errors and Carthage tallied three runs, on nine hits, with six errors. Starting pitcher
Alese Antonello earned the win in 4-1/3 innings of work. Antonello allowed three runs, including two earned runs, on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Paige Andrews tossed 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit.

Madison Forberg each had two hits in the win. Nahorniak and Antonello had doubles for the Thunder.
Wheaton scored twice in the top of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Antonello belted a two-run double to give her team the lead. Carthage responded with a run in the bottom of the first inning to cut Wheaton's lead to 2-1. In the second inning, Nahorniak drove in a run with a double and Andrews drove in a run to increase the Thunder lead to 4-1.
Abigail Latka had a RBI-single in the fourth inning; and
Elizabeth Meyer scored on a Carthage error to increase the Thunder lead to 6-1. The Firebirds scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to trim Wheaton's lead to 6-3. A
Nicole Allen hit drove in one and another run scored on a Carthage error as Wheaton earned the 8-3 victory.
Chicago defeated Wheaton 10-2 in today's second game at Ruth Leedy Field. The Maroons scored 10 runs, on 12 hits, with one error, and Wheaton tallied two runs, on two hits, with four errors. Wheaton's hits in the game were singles by
Kylie Chetakian and Andrews.
Andrews started the game in the circle for the Thunder as tossed 4-1/3 innings. She allowed seven runs, including four earned runs, on nine hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Antonello pitched 1-2/3 innings, with three runs, including two earned runs, on three hits, with one walk allowed.
The Maroons scored one run in the top of the first inning and the guests added three runs in the top of the third inning to give UChicago a 4-0 lead. Chicago added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to increase its lead to 7-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Chetakian scored as the result of a Chicago error and
Abie Brown drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth as Wheaton trimmed the Maroons' lead to 7-2. Chicago scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to account for the 10-2 final score.
Wheaton closes out its season on Saturday with a CCIW doubleheader at Augustana.
