Thunder softball falls to Aurora in a twinbill

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton softball team hosted Aurora for a non-conference doubleheader at Ruth Leedy Field on Tuesday afternoon. The matchup was originally scheduled for last month but was rescheduled for today due to weather. The Spartans swept the Thunder in today's matchup as Aurora won the opener 13-0 and the guests won the second game 9-0.

Aurora won today's first game 13-0 as the guests scored 13 runs, on 15 hits, with no errors. Wheaton had zero runs, on seven hits, with three errors.

Thunder starting pitcher Paige Andrews took the loss in 4-1/3 innings of work as she allowed eight runs, including six earned runs, 12 hits, with one strikeout and a walk. Reliever Elise O'Neil pitched 2/3 of an inning as she allowed five runs, with no earned runs, on three hits.

Elizabeth Meyer was 2-for-3 for the Thunder at the plate. Andrews, Kylie Chetakian, Abigail Latka, Elise O'Neil, and Madison Forberg each added singles for the hosts.

The Spartans won the nightcap 9-0. Aurora scored nine runs, on 12 hits, with two errors. Wheaton had zero runs, on seven hits, with four errors for the hosts.

Thunder starting pitcher Alese Antonello pitched five innings for the hosts. She allowed nine runs, including five earned runs, on 12 hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Andrews, Meyer, O'Neil, Forberg, Tiegan Hoffman, Isabel Hillyer, and Olivia Nahorniak each hit singles in the second game to account for Wheaton's seven hits.

Wheaton remains at home for its next matchup as the Thunder host Carthage tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader slated to begin at 2:00 p.m. Tomorrow's matchup was slated to be played on Thursday, however, with rain in the forecast for Thursday it was pushed up a day to get the contest in.
