Thunder track and field teams host the Wheaton Invitational

Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's and women's track and field programs hosted the 2023 Wheaton Invitational on Saturday at McCully Stadium and Lawson Field. The Wheaton men placed 10th in a 12-team field and the Thunder women finished eighth in a 14-team field. FULL RESULTS CAN BE FOUND HERE

University of Chicago also finished first in the women's team standings with 139 points. Hope scored 63 points in second place, Carthage scored 46 points in third place, Augustana finished fourth with 32 points, and Illinois Wesleyan rounded out the top-five with 23 points in fifth place. North Central scored 21 points in sixth place, IIT finished seventh with 14 points, the Wheaton women scored 11 points in eighth place, St. Francis (Ill.) scored 10 points in ninth place and Aurora rounded out the top-10 with nine points.

Thunder senior Amy Keane finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.28-seconds. Keane had a leap of 5.10-meters (16' 8-3/4") to finish fifth in the long jump.

Susannah Bennett was fourth in the women's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.53. Crystelle VanWingerden placed sixth in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.69.

Sam ElsenUniversity of Chicago finished first in the men's standings with 85 points, Carthage scored 52 points in second place, Benedictine tallied 39 points in third place, Illinois Wesleyan tallied 37 points in fourth place, College DuPage was fifth with 34 points, North Central scored 33 points in sixth place, Augustana finished seventh with 23 points, North Park scored 22 points in eighth place, Hope scored 18 points in ninth place and Wheaton was 10th with 17 points.

Sam Elsen (PICTURED LEFT) finished second for the Thunder in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:00.03. John Logan took fifth in the men's 800-meter run with a finish of 1:58.58.
Thunder senior Eli Odell placed second in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.30-seconds. Jediah Giller posted a time of 16.22-seconds in the 110-meter hurdles to finish sixth in the event.

Senior Jeremy Earnst recorded an effort of 6.36-meters (20' 20-1/2") to finish fourth in the men's long jump, and he was sixth in the triple jump with an effort of 12.28-meters (40' 3-1/2"). Senior Trevor Gabriele finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 14.67-meters (48' 1-3/4"). Jaden Ferlita took seventh in the discus throw with an effort of 40.20-meters (131' 11").
