Kenosha, Wis. – The Wheaton indoor track and field teams competed at Carthage's "Tadd Metzger Invitational" on Saturday. The Thunder women's team placed third in the eight-team field.
Marquette University placed first in the women's team standings with 165 points. Carthage scored 148 points in second place, Wheaton was third with 113 points and Carroll finished fourth with 106 points. Clarke (Iowa) scored 83 points in fifth place, North Central was sixth with 13 points, North Park tallied three points in seventh place and Elmhurst was eighth with two points.
Susannah Bennett led a strong Wheaton effort in the women's one-mile run with a time of 5:18.94 to finish first. 
Alyssa Mantia posted a time of 5:21.88 on the same event to place third and 
Hope Clark was fifth with an effort of 5:27.50. Junior 
Crystelle VanWingerden won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.02. 
Laura Prothero posted a time of 2:29.29 to finish second in the 800-meter run, ahead of teammate 
Natalie Conrad's effort of 2:31.89 in third place.
Amy Keane won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.58-seconds in the finals of the event. Keane also competed in the long jump where she finished fourth with a leap of 5.01-meters (16' 5-1/4").
Abi Gum tallied 2,943 points in the women's pentathlon on Friday to finish third in the 10-woman field. The Thunder 4X400-meter relay team of VanWingerden, Richert, Eisses and Coyle placed second with a time of 4:25.13.
The Thunder track and field teams return to action next Saturday at North Central's "Pat Heenan Invitational".
