Bloomington, Ill. – The Wheaton track and field teams are participating in the 2023 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Shirk Center on the campus of Illinois Wesleyan University. The Wheaton women's team currently finished third, while the Wheaton men are placed eighth.
 
North Central's women finished first in the women's team standings with 144.5 points in first place. Elmhurst is second with 141.5 points, Wheaton took third with 75 points, Carthage scored 65.6 points in fourth place, Millikin placed fifth with 61.5 points, Illinois Wesleyan's women registered 59 points in sixth place, Carroll tallied 46.5 points in seventh place, Augustana placed eighth with 36.5 points, North Park finished ninth with 33 points.
On Friday, 
Susannah Bennett led a sweep of the top-three spots for the Thunder in the women's 5,000-meter run. Bennett posted a time of 18:09.89 in first place, ahead of second-place teammate 
Hope Clark with a time of 18:12.58. 
Alyssa Mantia finished third in the event with a time of 18:18.71. Bennett also ran to a first-place effort in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:21.96 to win her CCIW Championship of the weekend. Bennett also earned All-CCIW recognition with a third-place finish in the women's one-mile run. She recorded a time of 5:17.06.
Thunder senior 
Abi Gum placed third in the women's pentathlon with 3,010 points on Friday. Gum had the top effort of any of the pentathletes in both the 800-meter run (2:27.91) and the shot put (10.25-meters). She also recorded two top-five finishes on Saturday. She finished fourth in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.27. Gum placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with an effort of 26.32-seconds.
Amy Keane posted a time of 9.20-seconds in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles to place fifth in the event. Keane was sixth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.11-meters (16' 9-1/4") .
Chloe Veth finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.81.
