Women's track and field finishes fourth at North Central

Naperville, Ill. - The Wheaton track and field teams competed at North Central's "F. Lee Slick Invitational" on Friday evening. The Thunder women finished fourth in the seven team field.

Elmhurst placed first in the women's team standings with 146.5 points, North Central was second with 146 points points, Lewis University scored 131 points in third, Wheaton was fourth with 48 points, Harper College took fifth with 32.5 points and COD tied Concordia-Chicago for sixth place with 20 points for each team.

The Thunder women's 4X400-meter relay team finished first overall with a time of 4:11.70. The quartet of Abi Gum Crystelle VanWingerden, Sadie Richert and Chloe Veth picked up the lone first-place effort of the night for the Wheaton women's program.

Gum placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.46, just ahead of VanWingerden in fourth place in 1:02.22. Amy Keane posted a time of 9.22-seconds to place fourth in the finals of the women's 60-meter hurdles.

Laura Prothero ran the one-mile run in 5:30.47 to finish third, followed by Chloe Veth in fourth place with an effort of 5:32.15. Teammate Elizabeth LaBrin placed seventh in the event with a time of 5:45.86. Destiny Rogers finished second in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.51.

Amy Keane recorded an effort of 5.30-meters (17' 4-3/4') in the women's long jump to place fifth. Gum was just behind her in seventh place with a leap of 5.15-meters (16' 10-3/4").

The Thunder travel to Bloomington, Illinois next Friday and Saturday to compete in the 2023 CCIW Indoor Track & Field Championships.
