Claremont, Calif – The Thunder women's basketball team concluded its two-game trip to Southern California on Saturday afternoon with a contest at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (2-9). The Thunder fall to 8-4 overall as they wrap up non-conference play.
Turnovers proved costly for a Wheaton squad that led 51-47 with 1:30 left. The Thunder had four turnovers in the final 90 seconds as the Athenas took advantage and out-scored the guests 7-0 in that span including the game-winning three-pointer as time expired.
Annie Tate scored 18 points with 14 rebounds for the hosts.
Annika Richardson also tallied 18 points for the guests.
Kate Oliver grabbed 10 rebounds, scoring seven points.
Wheaton shot 39.6% (19-of-48) from the field tonight, including 20% (3-of-15) from three-point range. The Athenas posted a 35.6% (21-of-59) field goal percentage, including 41.7% (5-of-12) behind the three-point arc. The Thunder shot 83.3% (10-of-12) at the free throw line, and CMS shot 70% (7-of-10) at the charity stripe.
Tanya Ghai scored 18 points for the hosts, including the game-winning trey. Katie Resendiz contributed 11 points for the Athenas.
Wheaton returns to the 2023-24 CCIW schedule next Wednesday in King Arena as the Thunder host Carroll University in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
