Wheaton, Ill. -- United Soccer Coaches released its 2023 Division III Men's Soccer All-Region Teams on Tuesday. A pair of Thunder forwards earned the All-Region VIII awards for the first time in their career. Junior
Pryse Anderson and
Kyle Johnson each earned All-Region accolades as they helped lead Wheaton to an 11-5-2 record this season. Anderson and Johnson were the top two goal scorers for a 2023 Wheaton unit that recorded the most wins for the program since 2015.
Anderson, a junior forward from Fort Worth, Texas, earned Second Team All-Region VIII honors this year. He led Wheaton with 16 goals this season, the highest single-season total at Wheaton since 2015. Anderson also contributed three assists for a total of 31 points on the season. A First Team All-CCIW selection this year, he was second in the conference for both goals and points in the regular season and put 23 of his 32 shots on target, making him one of the most accurate attackers in the league. Anderson scored the second-most goals in CCIW matches this year with six and had the highest points per game average in conference competition after earning 15 points in seven matches. He was named the CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week on October 3rd, the lone Thunder player to earn the recognition this season.
Johnson, a sophomore from Champaign, Illinois, picked up Third Team All-Region VIII accolades at forward. Johnson joined Anderson as the only other Wheaton player to hit double-figures in scoring this season, collecting ten goals and contributing four assists. Johnson tied Anderson for Wheaton's lead in shots on target in 2023 with 26 for each player this fall. Johnson's four game-winning goals this season was the second-highest mark in the CCIWÂ and his 24 total points ranked among the conference leaders.
