Wheaton, Ill. – The No. 2 seed Wheaton women's soccer team hosted No. 3 Carroll (11-5-3) on Wednesday evening in a CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinal match at Joe Bean Stadium. The Pioneers defeated the Thunder 2-0 to advance to Saturday's CCIW Tournament Final at North Central College. Wheaton concludes its 2023 campaign with a 6-7-5 overall record.
The Pioneers out-shot the Thunder 10-3 in the first half, including 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. Thunder goalkeeper
Myah Schoolman made seven saves in the Thunder net in the opening half.
Carroll's first goal came in the 68
th minute as Elli Pease collected a ricocheted shot attempt that bounced off the crossbar and headed it into the net to put the Pioneers up 1-0. Approximately nine minutes later The Pioneers registered their second goal. In the 76
th minute, Jo Ueland tapped in a ball that she received on a long cross from Brielle Ingalsbee. Ueland's goal gave the guests a 2-0 lead. Carroll out-shot the Thunder 16-6 in the second half, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal.
Schoolman made 12 saves in a busy evening in the Thunder net. Carroll netminder Caitlin Fitzsimons recorded two saves in posting the shutout.
The Pioneers owned a 26-9 advantage in shots, including a 14-2 edge in shots on goal. Carroll was awarded nine corner kicks in the match, with four going to the Thunder.
