Wheaton, Ill. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Division III All-Academic Teams for 2021-22 recently. The Wheaton men's and women's programs both earned representation on the teams. To qualify for the award, a team must have at least a 3.0 cumulative team GPA.
The Thunder men's program was among 155 Division III squads to earn the recognition from the USTFCCCA. The Wheaton men's team posted a 3.56 cumulative GPA for the academic year. Wheaton was among six CCIW teams (Carroll, Carthage, Elmhurst, North Central, North Park and Wheaton) to pick up the honor. Wheaton had the highest GPA among the six CCIW squads.
The Wheaton women's program was one of 213 teams in Division III to earn the award. The Wheaton women's program posted a 3.69 cumulative GPA in the 2021-22 season. Wheaton joined fellow CCIW programs Carroll, Carthage, Elmhurst, Millikin, North Central and North Park in earning the recognition in 2021-22. The Thunder had the highest team GPA of the nine CCIW honorees.
Additionally the USTFCCCA presented All-Academic individual awards for the 2021-22 season. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship; and/or finished the regular season ranked in the national-top 50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 35 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
The Thunder men's program had nine individual honorees:
