Geneva, Ohio – The 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships continued on Friday in Northeast Ohio. Isaiah Clausen and
Abi Gum wrapped up their action in the multi-event competitions at the Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships to highlight Friday's action for Wheaton. Both Clausen, in the men's decathlon, and Gum, in the women's heptathlon improved on their placement from when action concluded after day one for their final results.
FRIDAY
Gum competed in the final three events of the women's heptathlon on Friday. She started the day with 2,637 points in 20th place. Gum was stellar in Friday's action as she finished the day with 4,460 points and moved all the way up to 13th place. Gum's total was a new personal best, improving on her previous PR by 54 points and today's effort is now third on Wheaton's all-time top-10 in the women's heptathlon. The only people ahead of Gum on the program's all -time list are Heather Pancake, a two-time National Champion, whose best effort is 4,930 points in 1999; and Audrey Boothe, an All-American with a best effort of 4,626 in 2006.
Gum had a leap of 4.69-meters in the long jump to open up Friday's action in the heptathlon to add 477 points to her total. Her toss of 34.16-meters in the javelin throw was the sixth-best effort in the 22-woman field. The strong performance gave her 556 points, and moved her up five spots in the overall heptathlon standings from 20th place into 15th place as the group headed into the final event. The seven-event competition concluded on Friday with the 800-meter run. Gum again gave a sensational effort with a time of 2:22.52 that was fourth in the field. She tallied 790 points in the 800-meter run as she moved up another two places in the overall standings from 15th place to 13th place.

Clausen (PICTURED LEFT) started Friday in 11th place in the men's decathlon with 3,524 points. He concluded the final day of the competition with 6,602 points in ninth place. The top eight finshers in each event at the D3 Championships earn All-American honors, as a result Clausen missed All-American by one spot – just 52 points behind the eighth-place finisher.
Clausen started Friday's action with a time of 15.02-seconds in the 110-meter hurdles, the fourth-fastest time in the field, as he tallied 847 points with his effort. He moved up to ninth place in the overall decathlon standings with the effort. He had a throw of 31.82-meters in the discus throw to add 500 points to his total in the second event of the day. He cleared a height of 3.80-meters in the pole vault to tally 562 points.
The javelin throw followed for Clausen and the 20-man decathlon field. This portion of the competition was halted midway due to a weather delay in the area. Upon completion of the javelin, Clausen had a throw of 43.76-meters to add 497 points to his total as he moved into eighth place in the overall decathlon standings. Clausen gave it his all in the final event, the 1,500-meter run as he registered a time of 4:41.30. His effort was the fourth-fastest of the 20 competitors in the distance event as he concluded the grueling 10-event competition in ninth place.
THURSDAY
Senior Kevin Riley was the final Wheaton participant to compete on Thursday as he ran in the prelims of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Riley had a strong performance leading for about two laps late in the race and finishing third in his heat. The senior posted a time of 9:08.22 to place sixth overall among the 20 competitors in the steeplechase to earn a spot in the finals of the event on Saturday morning at 11:45 a.m. (EDT).
Junior Eli Odell competed in the prelims of the men's 400-meter hurdles on Thursday afternoon. Odell posted a time of 55.30 seconds to finish 16
th among the 20 competitors in the prelims.
Junior Isaiah Clausen participated in the first five events of the two-day men's decathlon competition on Thursday. Clausen currently sits in 11
th place in the 20-man field with 3,524 points. Clausen had a strong start with a time of 10.93-seconds in the 100-meter dash, the fourth-fastest time in the field as he tallied 876 points. He added 780 points with a strong time of 50.75-seconds in the 400-meter dash to go with his effort of 6.55-meters (709 points) in the long jump. Clausen had an effort of 1.82-meters in the high jump (644 points) and a throw of 10.48-meters (515 points) in the shot put. Action resumes on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, followed by the discus throw, pole vault, javelin and concludes with the 1,500-meter run.
Junior
Abi Gum is participating in the multi-even women's heptathlon on Thursday and Friday. Through the first four events on Thursday, Gum has 2,637 points in 20
th place. She had the seventh-fastest time of the 22 competitors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.80-seconds that earned her 815 points. The heptathlon concludes on Friday with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter run.
