Five Thunder student-athletes selected to represent Wheaton at the 2022 Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Wheaton, Ill. - Five individuals will represent Wheaton at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning on Thursday, May 26 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Seniors Kevin Riley and David Bradley, along with juniors Eli Odell and Isaiah Clausen will represent the Thunder men's program. Junior Abi Gum will compete on behalf of the Wheaton women's team next weekend.

MEN'S COMPETITORS
Isaiah Clausen will represent Wheaton in the decathlon. He earned All-American recognition in the indoor heptathlon in March at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day decathlon event begins with five events on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (EDT) and concludes on Friday when the final five events begin at 10:00 a.m. (EDT). Clausen's qualifying effort of 6,586 points was posted at the North Central Combined Events Meet on May 16-17.

Eli Odell has been selected to participate in the men's 400-meter hurdles for the second-consecutive year. Odell earned All-American recognition in the event at the 2021 Outdoor Championships in North Carolina. The prelims for the event are Thursday at 6:25 p.m. (EDT) and the finals are Saturday at 2:25 (EDT). Odell recorded the 16th-fastest time of the 20 selections in the 400-meter hurdles event next weekend. His qualifying time of 53.23-seconds came in a first-place effort at the 2022 CCIW Championships on May 6.

Kevin Riley is one of 20 qualifiers in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Qualifying heats for the event will be held at 7:35 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, with finals on Saturday at 11:45 a.m. (EDT). Riley, the 2022 CCIW Men's Track Athlete of the Meet, posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time of the 20 national qualifiers. Rileys' qualifying time of 9:02.88 was on May 13 at the St Francis Fighting Chance Invite in Joliet, Illinois.

David Bradley will compete in the men's pole vault next Saturday at noon (EDT). Bradley's qualifying height of 4.87-meters (15' 11-4/3") was recorded on May 12 at North Central's Carius/Gregory Invitational. His mark is 16th of the 20 competitors in this year's field. 

WOMEN'S PARTICIPANT
Junior Abi Gum will represent Wheaton in the women's heptathlon on Thursday and Friday. Her qualifying effort of 4,406 points was earned at the University of Mount Olive Multis Meet on May 11-12, and ranks 16th in the 22-woman field next weekend. The seven-event competition begins on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. (EDT) with the first four events. The final three events will be held next Friday, beginning with the long jump at 11:00 a.m (EDT).
