Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton Thunder softball team hosted Illinois Wesleyan for a conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Ruth Leedy Field. The Titans (14-7, 2-0 CCIW) won the opener 4-1 and IWU closed out the sweep with a 5-0 victory in the finale. Wheaton is now 11-13 on the season, with a 1-7 CCIW record.
Illinois Wesleyan won the first game 4-1 as the Titans scored four runs, on eight hits, with one error, and Wheaton tallied one run, on six hits with no errors. Thunder starting pitcher
Emilie Gist (6-5) tossed seven innings, allowing four runs, on eight hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
Paige Andrews was 2-for-3 for the Thunder in the contest.
The first game was scoreless until IWU scored one run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Titans added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-0. Wheaton scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Elise O'Neil and
Olivia Nahorniak each hit one-out singles.
Estelle Rios followed later in the inning with a RBI-single that drove O'Neil home. The Titans closed out the inning to earn the 4-1 victory.
IWU won the second game, 5-0. The Titans scored five runs, on seven hits, with one error and Wheaton tallied zero runs, on four hits, with three errors. Thunder starter
Alese Antonello (5-8) worked six innings, allowing five runs, with two earned runs, on seven hits, with one walks and three strikeouts.

Madison Forberg, Nahorniak and O'Neil each collected one hit in the night cap.
The Titans scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead. IWU added a run in the bottom of the fourth and another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to account for the 5-0 final score.
Wheaton returns to action on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader at St. Mary's (Ind.).Â
