New Berlin, Wis. – The Wheaton men's tennis team closed out its regular season schedule on Saturday with a conference match at Carroll University (1-14, 0-7 CCIW). The Thunder defeated the Pioneers 9-0.
Wheaton improves to 13-6 on the season, with a 6-2 record in CCIW play. The Thunder open play as the No. 3 seed in next week's CCIW Men's Tennis Championship at Carthage College. Wheaton faces No. 6 seed Illinois Wesleyan on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in the first round match.
Wheaton's No. 1 doubles team of
Joey Geisz and
Jacob Williams earned an 8-2 win today against the Carroll team of Luke Barter and Ian Hofland.
Jack Booker and
David Houlihan earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles against the Pioneers' team of Jack McCaffery and Ryan Strupp.
Tim Steiner and
Jack Wenzel won at No. 3 doubles via a default.
Wenzel was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles against McCaffery, while Steiner picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against Barter. Geisz earned 6-0, 6-0 win against Hofland at No. 3 singles. Wheaton's Shelton Graham won his match at No. 4 singles against Strupp, 6-0, 6-0.
Michael Walmer defeated Carroll's Ben Pierson 6-1, 6-0 in their matchup at No. 5 singles. Williams earned a win at No. 6 singles by default.
