Hanover Park, Ill. -- In a conference meeting that underwent a time and location change due to unfavorable weather, the Wheaton men's tennis team went with the flow and picked up their third straight win as they topped Augustana, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon. As a result of today's victory, the Thunder improved to 9-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.Â
Wheaton established an important early cushion thanks to their play in the doubles portion of the match.
Jack Booker and
Cody Ching teamed up to win their #1 pairing, 8-4, before
Jacob Williams and
Joey Geisz put in a flawless performance in their #2 frame.
Jack Wenzel and
Tim Steiner were nearly as dominant in the final doubles pairing, taking their contest by a score of 8-1.
Williams found his #2 singles situation considerably trickier, but the freshman still managed to shake off a second frame setback to win in a ten-point, third set tiebreaker.
Jack Wenzel put the home side one step closer to victory when he swept his #4 singles opponent, 6-0, 6-0. His doubles partner,
Tim Steiner, then finished the job in his #5 singles meeting, cruising past his Vikings counterpart by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
The Thunder squad has a week before their next outing in another conference home match, this time against North Central on April 20th.
