Hanover Park, Ill. -- The spring season may have just begun, but the Wheaton women's tennis team did not miss a beat after their Fall 2021 campaign. The Thunder brushed aside a strong Concordia-Wisconsin team by a score of 8-1 in Saturday's nonconference matchup to begin their spring slate in impressive fashion.Â
Abygale Ahn followed up her CCIW accolade-earning fall season by winning both her doubles and singles pairings this evening. First, the junior reunited with
Audrey Vick to claim their #1 doubles matchup by a score of 8-4. Then Ahn eased past her #1 singles counterpart, 6-0, 6-4. Vick did likewise, taking her #2 singles position at a 6-0, 6-2 margin.Â
Sarah Backer was another strong performer for the Thunder on Saturday, as the junior combined with
Lily Anne Van Ye to win their #3 doubles match by a comprehensive 8-1 margin. Backer then made it a perfect day at the office by winning her #4 singles contest in straight sets.
Bethany Hoogerheide and
Lydia Adams made light work of their #2 doubles pairing, sweeping past their Falcons opponents, 8-2. Adams quickly put another point on the board for Wheaton when she claimed her #6 singles matchup by a 6-1, 6-2 scoreline.
Finally,
Alexandra Wachs fought off her Concordia rival, 7-6, in the second set of her #5 singles position to earn a straight-set victory.
After opening their spring account in dominant style, the Thunder can prepare for a trip to sunny Orlando, Florida, where the squad will face off against three nonconference opponents in consecutive days.
